News from Pune: The long-awaited double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Chowk is almost finished, which is significant news for Pune locals. According to authorities from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), it is anticipated to open by the end of June.
According to a number of sources, the double-decker flyover project is nearing completion. When the flyover is available to the public, it will reduce traffic on Ganeshkhind Road and at important intersections such as Senapati Bapat Road, Baner, Aundh, Pashan, and the crowded University Circle, which is one of the busiest areas in the city.
Vehicle traffic will be on the bottom deck of this two-tiered flyover, while the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro route will be on the top level.
According to reports, all 32 of the bridge’s pillars have been put in place, and enormous steel girders that are up to 55 meters long and 20 meters broad are being erected.
The Pashan-side ramps are also being development. According to the Pune Pulse, the Pashan side ramp project would take months to complete, while the flyover is anticipated to open by June 30.
The Aundh and Shivajinagar ramps are almost finished and should be operational by May 20. The initial timeline for the much anticipated project was May 2025. However, the project was postponed until June owing to difficulties with property acquisition and road expansion.
The highway has previously seen traffic jams during construction, but Punekars may now breathe a sigh of relief upon hearing that it is almost finished.
The flyover is a component of Pune’s broader transportation plan, which also includes future public transportation choices including Bus Rapid Transit (BRTS) and the integration of the metro rail line.
Additionally, the initiative aims to increase pedestrian access, which would enhance the region’s general connection.
