A major has announced an 'everything must go' sale as one of its stores prepares to close. Trespass in Aylesbury, one of the brand's 300 , will shut its doors on May 18.
This is not the first Trespass closure. Six closed in 2023 and by the end of 2024, another 12 had shut. These included stores in Coventry, , and Middlesbrough. The Aylesbury store has been open for many years, being one of the first units you see as you enter the shopping centre.
Locals have called the closure a loss, especially for those needing affordable outdoor wear. One said: "It's a shame - we've bought hiking gear and waterproofs here for years. Not sure where we'll go now."
While some told that high street closures like this are now expected, others were frustrated at how quickly longstanding shops are disappearing.
Trespass has not confirmed why the closure is happening - whether it's part of a lease expiry, cost-cutting plan, or both
This comes as Sports Direct, New Look, and WHSmith shut stores and announce downsizing. The British Retail Consortium says high running costs, tax changes and increased National Insurance contributions have placed a £2.3 billion weight on retail.
The Centre for Retail Research has also warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to close this year. That's a 28% increase from last year, when over 13,000 closed.
Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR said: "The results for 2024 show that although the outcomes for store closures overall were not as poor as in either 2020 or 2022, they are still disconcerting, with worse set to come in 2025."
