On Saturday, enthusiasts were elated when Jo Martin made a triumphant return to the screen in her iconic role in the latest episode of the show.

The recent outing, titled The Story and The Engine, saw Jo Martin make an unexpected cameo as the enigmatic Fugitive Doctor.

As Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor steps into his favourite barbershop situated in Lagos, Nigeria, he's quickly sucked into solving a complex conundrum.

Michelle Asante, playing Abena, confronts the Doctor during the episode, reproaching him over prior letdowns linked to a bet with the mythic Anansi, where he had wagered "to make me marry one of his daughters."

In a dramatic twist, the lens then pans to unveil Jo Martin's version of the Time Lord stepping in for Gatwa's Doctor.

She declared: "I was a fugitive back then. Anansi was wrong to offer that bet. And frankly, darling, I was busy in a different story - that might be finished one day.."

Though her stint on screen was short-lived, it nonetheless ignited a buzz among the die-hard fans of the series, reports

One viewer exclaimed online: "Seeing Jo Martin again, I yelled. Seeing three, nine, twelve, and thasmin in archive footage, I screamed."

Another avid fan took to social media to share their thrill, adding: "So happy to see Jo Martin!"

Another comment read: "The doctor with no number. The fugitive doctor in a parallel timeline. When they do line-ups of all the doctors together, I'm always sad she isn't there."

Someone else wrote: "Thrilled, Jo Martin is an amazing Doctor, and I'm delighted that this era continues to acknowledge her and bring her back!"

Another enthusiast speculated about the character's future, commenting: "Her line certainly felt like a hint towards the future of that incarnation... #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoSpoilers."

Celebrating the show's essence, one fan declared: "This was pure DOCTOR WHO." While another praised the episode, saying: "This episode was everything this show is about. It was fun, it was educational, it was heavy, it had callbacks, and perfect pacing. And of course, we got to see more of the wonderful Jo Martin. 10/10 for sure! ! #DoctorWho."

One eager viewer even called for more of her character, stating: "We need to see Jo Martin finish her story as the Fugitive Doctor! Spin-off series now! #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoSpoilers".

Reflecting on her role in March, Jo Martin herself acknowledged the enduring nature of the Doctor Who family, remarking: "It's an amazing family to be a part of, and it's a job that keeps on giving, because you never quite leave.

"There's always that chance that you can have to go back and do this or do that. You just don't know."

Doctor Who is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
