Squid Game season three is finally nearly upon us, but fans are already convinced they’ve worked out some major spoilers.

A trailer for the hit South Korean thriller was released earlier this week, teasing another brutal round of games for Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) and his fellow competitors.

Season three will pick up from a jaw-dropping cliffhanger ending after Gi-hun’s failed uprising which saw covert player ‘Oh Young-il’ (Lee Byung-hun) return to his role as the Front Man.

The remaining players now face another gauntlet of fatal challenges from which there can only be one winner - unless Gi-hun and police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) can figure out another way to escape.

Unfortunately, the sadistic rules of Squid Game guarantee some fatalities along the way, and fans think they’ve cracked who’ll be the next tragic loss for the series.

Eagle-eyed viewers recently took to to highlight a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment featuring Jang Geum-ja (Kang Ae-shim) looking devastated.

“Probably the first most likely confirmed death,” the viewer who started the discussion said.

“This scene alone probably is a evidence that 007 will die even if it’s just for mere seconds.”

Player 007 is, of course, Geum-ja’s son Park Yong-sik (Yang Dong-geun), who joined the games out of desperation when his gambling habits left him destitute.

The mother-and-son pair have formed a strong alliance over the course of the tournament, but their separation for one of the next games in the trailer has sounded alarms amongst the fanbase.

Many are now convinced Yong-sik will be one of the first to be killed off, though Geum-ja’s fate is still up in the air.

Another fan replied: “Yeah everyone should have suspected this, 007's character only revolves around his relationship with his mom.

“The mom however has ties to other characters (222,120,044) so she is going to stick a little longer while 007 will die first.”

“We knew this would happen,” someone else predicted.

“And this is MOST likely after the 4th game, aside from the fact that we know he got separated from his mom, it's also that she has her hairpin removed, which means she used it in the 4th game as defence.”

A third viewer lamented: “I feel SO bad seeing this breaks my heart.”

Although others have suggested the scene could be right after Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri) gives birth, as a baby’s cry is heard right at the end of the trailer.

“The fact she doesn’t have her hairpin could be because she had to use it to defend herself, or because she used it to cut the umbilical cord,” one fan proposed.

“Also, considering the lighting, it looks like it’s happening during the votes time? She could be crying to leave.”

And another morbid prediction said: “Plot twist, she's crying because the pregnant lady gave birth but the lady died, and she doesn't have her hair clip because she used the knife to cut the cord from the baby.”

Do you think the writing is on the wall for Yong-sik? All our questions will be answered very soon.

Squid Game season 3 premieres Friday, 27th June on Netflix.
