A Thai Airways flight bound for Frankfurt was forced to make an emergency landing back in Bangkok on Sunday after a technical issue caused it to dump fuel mid-air.
The Boeing 777-300ER, originally scheduled to depart from Suvarnabhumi Airport around noon and arrive in Frankfurt by 9 p.m. local time, was seen circling over Samut Sakhon province as it released large amounts of fuel, leaving long white trails visible in the sky, according to the Bangkok Post.
Sources revealed that the aircraft’s main landing gear cover had not closed properly before departure, prompting the crew to return to Bangkok as a precaution, Incl reported.
The plane was grounded for inspection and maintenance before taking off again at approximately 3:20 p.m. It successfully completed its journey and landed in Frankfurt later that night.
