Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is actively seeking young talent to fill in for injured players, recently acquiring 26-year-old Urvil Patel. This follows their earlier signings of South African newcomer Dewald Brevis and Maharashtrian talent Ayush Mhatre. Urvil gained attention during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) last year, where he impressively scored two centuries for Baroda.
On Monday, Urvil was officially added to the CSK roster mid-season, stepping in for Vansh Bedi, a 22-year-old wicketkeeper from Delhi who has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury. The IPL confirmed this move in a statement released on Monday:
"Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has signed Urvil Patel as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament owing to a ligament tear in the left ankle."

This isn't Urvil's first experience with an IPL team. Although he went unsold during the 2025 Mega Auction, he was part of the Gujarat Titans in 2023, where he unfortunately did not make a significant impact.
In the recent SMAT 2024-2025 season, Urvil amassed 315 runs across six matches, boasting an impressive strike rate of 200. He set a record by scoring a century in just 28 balls against Tripura, breaking Rishabh Pant's record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian. Just a week later, he achieved another remarkable feat with a 36-ball century against Uttarakhand. Over 47 T20 matches, he has accumulated 1162 runs with a solid strike rate of 170.
Historically, CSK has not been known for nurturing young talent, but in 2025, they have successfully recruited several promising players, including Shaik Rasheed. While Mhatre has made the most of his chances, Rasheed is still working to make a significant impact. With only three matches remaining in the season, CSK has already been eliminated from playoff contention.
