Bhopal (Madhya Prdaesh):

The plan to dismantle Satpura Bhawan and Vindhyachal Bhawan one by one and to construct new modern buildings in their place is in limbo as the proposal is in a nascent stage and awaits government approval.

The Madhya Pradesh Building Development Corporation (MPBDC) had initially planned to dismantle both buildings one after another and construct nine-storey buildings in their place at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore. However, the government is yet to take a final decision on the proposed project.

The MPBDC’s proposed plan says that first Satpura Bhawan will be dismantled by shifting all its offices to Vindhyachal Bhawan. Later, as per need, the Vindhyachal Bhawan too will be dismantled to construct a new building. The construction of both new buildings will take three years each.

Sources said that a presentation had been made before CM Mohan Yadav but things were at a dead end.

Call comes after the massive fire in Satpura Bhawan in 2023

After a massive fire in Satpura Bhawan in 2023, the government decided to examine the building and take a call if it would be renovated or be dismantled to construct a new edifice.

Earlier, the Public Works Department had given the proposal to renovate Satpura Bhawan and Vindhyachal Bhawan at a cost of around Rs 250 crore. It intended to renovate only the areas of common use of both buildings by excluding the offices, which are in maximum number.

The government later decided to rope in the MPBDC by dropping the PWD proposal.

The MPBDC wants that new buildings should come up in place of Satpura Bhawan and Vindhyachal Bhawan and be known as the Capital Complex.

It intends to use the double floor area ratio (FAR) of both buildings. All the directorate level offices of the state government will be shifted to the new buildings. However, the project is at a discussion stage and awaits government approval.
