champion has revealed his latest big business deal was agreed before he even teed off at Augusta last month. This week, it was confirmed that the 35-year-old's investment firm, Symphony Ventures, was launching a new partnership with TGP.
The two companies are forming TGP Sports, an investment firm that has vowed to partner with a range of sporting companies, teams, and leagues. McIlroy and business colleague Sean O'Flaherty will serve as operating partners for the strategy and will be responsible for sourcing investments. The Northern Irish star has now opened up on the deal, and insisted it hasn't materialised simply because of his Grand Slam glory.
In an interview with Andrew Sorkin of CNBC, McIlroy claimed that talks first began in December 2023. He then outlined how he held meetings with the CEO of TGP Capital House before an agreement was reached.
"I'm very happy with what we're about to do," he said. "I went to Jon Winkelried's house early. It was like March of 2024. I had lunch with him. And, you know, I think you have to try to bring this partnership together and to have the support of the entire firm."
He also insisted that he and O'Flaherty were determined to make the venture a success, adding: "TPG has been very meaningful to Sean and I. And, you know, we're trying to add as much value as we can."
McIlroy's career earnings in golf have now surpassed £78million, putting him second only to on the all-time list. Despite this, he's continued to be active with his ventures off the course, and in January joined co-founder Woods .
The TGL is run by TMRW Sports, a technology-focused sports company launched by Woods and McIlroy in August 2022. Tennis icons and Venus Williams, NBA star Stephen Curry and owners FSG are among the backers.
McIlroy has been enjoying the limelight since his sensational play-off win at Augusta. This week, he also appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, and spoke about the emotion of finally completing a career Slam.
