Sports Desk, New Delhi. Greg Chappell on Vaibhav Suryavanshi: Rajasthan Royals' young cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making a splash in IPL 2025. 14-year-old Vaibhav scored a century in just 35 balls in the match against Gujarat Titans. With this century, Vaibhav became the fastest Indian batsman to score a century in IPL.
Everyone is praising Vaibhav for the identity he has made at such a young age. Meanwhile, former Indian coach Greg Chappell has advised BCCI to take care of Vaibhav like Sachin and warned them to avoid a similar fate as Prithvi-Vinod Kambli.
Greg Chappell gave warning to BCCI
In fact, former Indian team coach Greg Chappell has warned the BCCI to handle Vaibhav Suryavanshi carefully. Citing the example of Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli and Prithvi Shaw, he has said that Vaibhav has to be handled properly. Otherwise, his career can also be ruined.
In his column for ESPNcricinfo, Greig wrote,
"Sachin Tendulkar achieved success not just because of talent but also because of a strong support system. A calm demeanour, a wise coach, a family that protected him from the world. Vinod Kambli, on the other hand, was equally talented and perhaps more flamboyant but could not strike a balance between fame and discipline. He fell as fast as he rose. Prithvi Shaw is one such player. He has fallen now. But, maybe he will rise again."
Chappell said that talent should be given proper guidance and protection. It should not be used only for marketing.
Let us tell you that Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar started their careers at the same time. While Tendulkar went on to become one of the greatest players to have ever played the game, left-handed Vinod Kambli went on to live a lost life.
The Master Blaster played important innings in cricket during his illustrious career, scoring a total of 34,357 runs across all formats (Tests, ODIs and T20s). He scored 15,921 runs in Tests and 18,426 runs in ODIs, he also played one T20 match, scoring 10 runs.
Vinod Kambli scored 1084 runs in 17 Test matches, 2477 runs in 104 ODIs, 9965 runs in First Class and 6476 runs in 221 List A matches.
