Washington The Cannes Film Festival has added a number of films to the official selection, including Ethan Coen’s “Honey Don’t!” in the Midnight section, Kristen Stewart’s “The Chronology of Water” in Un Certain Regard, and Lynne Ramsay’s thriller “Die, My Love,” which stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson.
“Mother and Child” by Saeed Roustaee, “Love Me Tender” by Anna Cazenave Cambet, “Un Poeta” by Simon Mesa Soto, and “O Riso E A Faca (Le Rire et le Couteau”) by Pedro Pinho in Un Certain Regard, “Renai Saiban” by Koji Fukada, “Astin Sem Eftir Er” by Hlynur Palmason, “Magalhaes” by Lav Diaz in premiere, and “Le Roi Soleil” by Vincent Mael Cardona in midnights are additional additions to the official selection, Variety reported.
Following the festival’s formal press conference on April 10, when director Thierry Fremaux revealed the roster, “Die, My Love” was shown for the Cannes committee.
Ramsay is the seventh female filmmaker to participate at the Cannes Film Festival this year, breaking previous records established by Mascha Schilinski (‘Sound of Falling’), Carla Simon (‘Romeria’), Kelly Reichardt (‘The Mastermind’), Hafsia Herzi (‘La Petite Derniere’), and Julia Ducournau (‘Alpha’).
For the 78th edition, Hollywood will be well-represented. The festival will include Tom Cruise for the debut of “Mission: Impossible” in addition to the main ‘Die, My Love’ characters. According to the outlet, Josh O’Connor starred in Kelly Reichardt’s heist movie “The Mastermind,” Denzel Washington starred in Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest,” Jodie Foster starred in Rebecca Zlotowski’s out-of-competition crime comedy “Vie Privee,” and Oliver Hermanus starred in the romance “The History of Sound.”
The cast of Anderson’s ‘The Phoenician Scheme’ includes Benicio del Toro, Michael Cera, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Riz Ahmed, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Scarlett Johansson, while Aster’s ‘Eddington’ stars Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, and Austin Butler. According to Variety, the latter will also be in Cannes with her first feature film as a filmmaker, “Eleanor the Great,” in the Un Certain Regard area.
The dates of the Cannes Film Festival are May 13–24.
