Umar Khalid has got a big shock from Delhi’s Karkardooma Court. The bail plea of ​​jailed Umar Khalid, accused in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, was rejected on Tuesday (May 19). Omar had sought interim bail of 15 days to attend the Chahlum (40th day ritual) of his late maternal uncle and take care of his ailing mother.


Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Vajpayee heard Khalid’s plea seeking 15-day interim bail. Umar’s mother has to undergo surgery. For this reason, Umar Khalid wanted interim bail of 15 days, but got a setback from the court.


Umar Khalid had asked the court to let him out of jail for a few days so that he could join his maternal uncle’s activities and take care of his ailing mother.


Khalid and others were booked under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He is accused of being the ‘key conspirator’ of the 2020 riots. 53 people were killed and more than 700 were injured in the riots. The violence had erupted during widespread protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and NRC.
