News India Live, Digital Desk: Udaipur Files in Legal Tussle: The future of the most disputed film ‘Udaipur files’, which is considered to be the most controversial of 2025, is going to be decided in the Supreme Court today. The film is based on the true incident and has been in constant headlines since its screening was banned. The Delhi High Court had earlier stayed its public release, against which the filmmakers have approached the Supreme Court. The case of ‘Udaipur files’ is quite sensitive as it is based on a serious criminal incident which created a ruckus in the entire country. The central government objected to some parts of the film, as they believe that its release may worsen communal harmony and increase tension in the society. The government had already argued before the Supreme Court that the film could be a part of ‘unilateral publicity’ and may pose a threat to peace. The Delhi High Court in its judgment gave some relief to ‘Times Now’ (which is going to broadcast this film), but also laid a condition. The High Court refused to release the film on social media platforms, while allowing it to screen its own TV and OTT platforms. Now this decision has been challenged by ‘Times Now’ and the producers of the film in the Supreme Court, saying that it is a violation of freedom of media expression. Today’s hearing is very important as it will not only decide the fate of ‘Udaipur Files’, but can also present a big juris on the delicate balance between freedom of expression and communal peace in India. The Supreme Court’s decision will make a far -reaching impact on how artifacts based on sensitive events are seen and controlled.
