At the age of 42, James Anderson is all set to make his captaincy debut in professional cricket, as he will be leading Lancashire in the coming two matches of the County Championship. The present captain, Marcus Harris, is returning to Australia for his paternal duties for his expected first child.
This will thus make Anderson the acting captain of the team. Well, Anderson will also be the third captain for Lancashire this summer. The team is undergoing a bit of turmoil in terms of performance and is looking at him for a betterment.
Anderson has been suffering from a calf injury and has played one County Championship Match. And now, he will be leading the Lancashire against Kent on Sunday in Blackpool and then the Derbyshire in Chesterfield.
Earlier, he has had a good run in the Vitality Blast, where he took 10 wickets in four matches. Anderson returned to County cricket after almost a decade, and the Lancashire interim coach Steven Croft lauded Anderson's captaincy. While speaking to BBC Sport, Croft said,
"Jimmy will lead the side and it is exciting for him and us. he has captained only once and that was in a pre-season tour T20 game in Dubai, so it will be nice for Jimmy and the lads. he has obviously got a lot to offer on and off the field. It will be a proud moment for him."

Lancashire cricket is undergoing a massive turmoil on the field. As the interim coach Croft mentioned, there have been 7 defeats, and nothing seems sorted. Battling at the second-to-last slab of the table in Division Two, they had a captaincy shuffle.
They earlier had elected Keaton Jennings as their captain but then handed over the leadership to Harris after an awful start in their red-ball cricket. For the Vitality Blast, the club was pretty decent, standing in the third position in the North Group, winning six matches.
Even their head coach Dale Benkenstein departed and Croft took over as the interim head coach. Croft added,
"The way I'm looking at it, and what I will say to the team, is this is a pivot in the season. Seven games that have gone before, we can't do anything about. But we still have seven games to climb the ladder, and there is still a chance we can go up."
With taking the leadership, be it for two matches, the team is looking for some hope depending on the shoulders of the senior pro.
